The people of Israel experience much joy and pride, but also face many difficult challenges. Some are at the national level, such as war, terrorism, and drought. Others are very personal – hunger, terminal illness, and other tragedies. We wish could eliminate these pains from people’s lives – but we know that is not always possible. What is possible, however, is to offer a helping hand, necessary equipment, and support, in order to offer the means and the hope for a better tomorrow.
Every month we highlight the efforts and accomplishments of different organizations that are working hard to address some of these difficult issues and to provide hope for a better tomorrow. These organizations will benefit from the contributions resulting from your online purchases – we will donate to them 25% of the commissions earned from the sales of products and services purchased online from stores accessed from links on the IShopForIsrael.com web site.
Featured Cause – May 2012: Machshava Tova
Imagine your life without a computer, without internet. Sounds like a bad sci-fi movie.
Hard to believe, but this is the reality for a quarter of Israel’s population. One out of every 4 Israelis does not own a computer; one out of every 5 is not connected to the internet. Unable to access computers and gain basic computer skills, many cannot compete with computer and internet savvy populations, reinforcing the social and economical dichotomy brought about by technology.
Machshava Tova is a non-profit organization that aims to minimize social gaps in Israel by means of technology. We provide underprivileged populations with the necessary tools and knowledge to function in a rapidly evolving technological environment. We operate 8 computer centers in low socio-economic neighborhoods and 3 mobile computer centers, able to reach populations often physically incapable of accessing our computer centers.
Since its establishment in 2003 Machshava Tova has served more than 16,000 individuals including youth at-risk, single mothers, new and veteran immigrants, minority groups, the unemployed, senior citizens, people with physical and mental disabilities, and more. We offer a wide selection of courses, ranging from basic computer skills to vocational and professional courses, and adapt content for the specific needs of each group. Please, join us as we expand our activities and reach additional underprivileged populations across Israel.
